Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
The Experience
I’m worried my loved one will be nervous on camera. How do you handle that?
It is completely natural to feel a bit of "stage fright." My process starts with a warm conversation before the cameras even turn on. I use small, non-intrusive equipment and professional lighting that feels natural, not like a movie set. Most storytellers forget the camera is there within the first ten minutes.
What if they can't remember certain details?
Oral history isn't a memory test; it’s about the essence of a life. I use specialized memory prompts and "story-trekking" techniques to gently guide the conversation. If a specific date is forgotten, we focus on the feeling of the moment instead.
Can we choose the topics we talk about (or avoid)?
Absolutely. We have a pre-interview consultation where we map out the "story beats." You are in total control of the narrative, and we can designate "off-limits" topics to ensure everyone feels safe and respected.
Technical & Logistics
Where do the interviews take place?
Ideally, in the storyteller’s home. Being in a familiar environment surrounded by their own things—photos, books, their favorite chair—creates the most authentic and relaxed video.
What if I want to add old home movies or photos into the video?
We love doing this! We can weave your existing family archives into the interview to create a true documentary-style film. We can discuss these "add-ons" during our consultation call.
Privacy & Ownership
Who owns the footage?
You do. This is your family’s private history. I do not share or use any footage for marketing purposes without your explicit, written permission.
How is the video delivered?
We will mail a USB thumb drive with your edited interview directly to you. We do not store the footage online as there may be sensitive information in your interview.
